Background
Gorkha International Public Secondary School was founded in1998 A.D. by a group of Gorkhas (Lahures) and was inaugurated by the vice-chancellor of Kathmandu University, Professor Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma on the 14th of Chaitra 20055 B.S. (28TH OF March 1999 A.D.). The Gurkhas had played a vital role to save their nation with their qualities. The Gurkha soldiers with experiential knowledge while serving aboard, once again encountered the reality of life back at home. It had been another challenge for the Gurkhas and the future of their children. Having felt the need to establish a really good institution, Gorkha International Public Secondary School, had set and instantly put it into action.
The school had a total strength of 300 students with 11 sections from nursery to class 6 in its establishment year. Currently, it serves over 300 students with 11 sections from nursery to class 12. The institution is spread over a lavish area of around 5 bighas of land. 140 teaching and ancillary staff are working in the institution.
Academic Achievement
Gorkha International Public Secondary School has been making constant efforts to provide better education to its students. The school has been producing excellent results in SEE, class 11 and 12 board exam (Science/Management0 since its first batch. According to a survey taken by National Magazine Himal Khabar Patrika, all the higher secondary schools of Nepal, on the basis of +2 result, our school was in top ranking on many occasions. Our school received Shikshya Sewa Samman by focus Nepal. Our SLC first batch student Dr. Sanir Rana passed PH.D. In the cell, molecular and developmental biology from the USA. We are proud to say that hundreds of our students have become engineers; dozens of our students have become doctors and so on. It has proved itself as one of the best schools in Nepal.
The new approach in Pre-primary
Since the academic year 2070, we have taken a step forward to enhance the Montessori method of teaching for the Pre-primary level through a complete preschool system (CPS) by coordinating with the institute of Lavanya International, Kathmandu. Currently, this method is being applied till Grade 5. A gradual change is being seen in the children’s behavior too. The teachers are enjoying to explore the hidden talent potentiality.
Scholarship Awards
In order to encourage and stimulate students to learn well, the school has been providing numerous categories of scholarship awards to both the deprived and the privilege such as Dalit, Baadi, Kusunda, Indigenous children, diligent and laborious students, handicapped, class topper and staff-child. About 300 students have been provided various scholarships and incentives every year.
NCC Programme
National Cadet Corps (NCC) training has been provided to 36 students (18 boys and 18 girls) by Nepal Army in the academic year 2075. 72 students in 2073 B.S. and 36 students in 2074 B.S. got a chance for NCC training. Our student Lalit Kumar Pun was selected for the Youth Exchange program (YEP) and took part in Herman Loss Challenge Trophy Cam 2017 in Srilanka (2074/07/06). Our students got the best platoon trophy during annual camp in 2074 B.S. This kind of Special Military training teaches students physical discipline as well as emotional and national unity and during crises the educated cadets are fully prepared for national protection.
ISA Award
Gorkha International Public Secondary School has achieved International School Award(ISA) by the British Council for outstanding development of the international dimension in the curriculum on 26th June 2018. Since the introduction of ISA in our school, our teaching methodology, and perception of the subjects have undergone a sea change with the world fast becoming a global village it has become imperative for us to think and act as global citizens.
Co-curricular/Extracurricular Activities
We regularly organize volleyball, football, Athletics, Martial Art, quiz, Art, Elocution, Essay writing, Handwriting, Debate, Poem, Dance, Educational trips, tracking, picnic and etc. Various inter-house competitions are carried out through house activities. Interschool competitions are encouraged so that the students can interact with the students of other schools and benefit both ways.
