About Us
B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) was established on January 18, 1993 and subsequently upgraded as an Autonomous Health Sciences University on October 28, 1998 with a mandate to work towards developing socially responsible and competent health work force, providing health care and engaging in health research. BPKIHS is located in Eastern Nepal & it has extended its continued health services through teaching district concept to Primary Health Care Centers, District Hospitals and Zonal Hospitals in six districts of the region.
This Institute is envisaged as one of the finest examples of Indo-Nepal Co-operation. This University is aptly named after Bisheshwar Prasad Koirala, Nepal's visionary leader in social upliftment, firm believer of National Reconciliation and National Integration. Candidates from disadvantaged groups are given opportunities for admission in most of the academic programmes. While selecting candidates for post graduate studies, the Institute has given due recognition to those medical officers who have worked in the primary health centers and district hospitals.
International and National Perspectives of BPKIHS
There are substantial number of Indian students studying in the institute. Indian nationals do not require any visa to enter Nepal. BPKIHS is an international university in a true sense. Students from The Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, Switzerland, USA, Canada, Germany and other countries visit regularly for their electives and clerkship.
Offering programs:
BPKIHS offers more than 20 programs of different levels. The programs are Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), MBBS, Bachelor of Nursing (BN), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Nursing, B.Sc. MIT, Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory B.Sc MLT, DM Cardiology, DM Gastroenterology and Hepatology, DM Neonatology, DM Pulmonary, Critical care and Sleep Medicine, MCh GI Surgery, MCh Urosurgery, MD in Hospital Administration, Master of Dental Surgery (MDS), Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science (M.Sc) in Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Medical Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology, Master of Science (M.Sc) in Nursing, and PCL Nursing.

BPKIHS is situated at Dharan - one of the cleanest cities of Nepal, an environment-friendly city surrounded by greenery.
