Hacettepe University Institute of Social Sciences was established as the Faculty of Postgraduate Education (MESEF) on July 15, 1967, and was restructured under the name of Hacettepe University Institute of Social Sciences in February 1982 in accordance with the provisions of Article 19 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 . Its fields of activity and duties have been determined as conducting, supervising and developing postgraduate programs in the fields of literature, art, social and economic sciences within the framework of Articles 3 and 9 of the Law on the Organization of Higher Education Institutions dated March 28, 1983 and numbered 2809.
With the Executive Board Decision of the Council of Higher Education dated 05 June 2012, 12 departments and 30 programs carried out under our Institute were transferred to the Institute of Fine Arts, and 3 programs providing education within the Institute of Health Sciences were transferred to our Institute. In the same year, with the Executive Board Decision of the Council of Higher Education dated 09 August 2012, 3 departments and 9 programs providing education within our Institute were transferred to the Institute of Educational Sciences.
Currently, at the Institute of Social Sciences , there are a total of 100 postgraduate education programs, including 29 departments within 4 faculties (Literature, Law, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Communication) and 66 master's and 34 doctoral programs affiliated with 4 multidisciplinary departments. is being carried out.
In the 1994-1995 academic year, a different application was added to the postgraduate education activities, where only master's and doctorate programs with thesis were defined, with the non-thesis master's program opened in the Department of Business Administration. This application was later developed with non-thesis master's degree, second education master's degree without thesis, distance education second education non-thesis master's degree programs affiliated to different departments, and the Institute of Social Sciences was made to offer different opportunities in terms of educational diversity.
Thanks to the graduate programs, which are constantly updated by following the scientific and technological developments by the departments affiliated to the institute, not only the scientist needs of our university are met, but also important tasks have been undertaken in the training of the academic staff of many other universities. In this context, since 1988, in accordance with the provision of Article 35 of the Law No. 2547, the efforts of developing universities to train faculty members have been supported. There are still many research assistants studying in programs affiliated to the Institute within the scope of this article; During the mentioned period, many teaching staff graduated and started to work at the universities where they had their staff.
The Institute of Social Sciences also attaches great importance to carrying national education and research activities to the international platform, and takes concrete steps in this direction with bilateral agreements and various academic collaborations. It is determined to carry its efforts in this direction further and better over time .
